It wasn’t that long ago that weightloss diets focused mainly on restricting calories and food. The problem with this type of restrictive eating plan is that they are not sustainstaible in the long run. Nowadays, most diets take a different approach that focuses on lifestyle changes and building healthy eating habits.

Nutritional Herbology is a reference book that includes 133 herbs and foods of various origins and easy-to-understand information on the uses, preparations and ways to combine many of these herbs to produce the most potent results.

The author, Mark Pedersen, herbal research chemist, is very thorough in his descriptions and documentation. He has written both Nutritional Herbology and Nutritional Herbology Volume II. These two books have been revised and put into this one book to create a better, expanded volume than either of its two predecessors. This new version of Nutritional Herbology is well-referenced for both beginner and expert herbalists — another good addition to the natural healer’s library.

The introduction for Nutritional Herbology includes definitions, history, patents and laws pertaining to herbs and natural healing. It also includes regional and cultural influences on the evolution of herbology and even includes a section on herbs and medicine. “…the most widely used drug in the world, aspirin, is based on the naturally occurring salicin in white willow bark.” (...)

Read the rest of Nutritional Herbology – A Reference Guide to Herbs

But many people only purchase or grow enough for fresh eating and avoid buying larger quantities to can, freeze, or preserve as jam or jelly.

Why? Because what was common knowledge in great-grandmother’s day has fallen by the wayside.

Fruits of the Midwest – A Cookbook and Guide from Harvest to Table is a new book written to fill this information void and give consumers the help they need to make the most of these fruits (and “near fruits”) common in the Midwest: Apples, Blackberries, Blueberries, Cherries (sour/pie), Peaches, Pears, Pumpkin, Raspberries, Rhubarb, Strawberries.

Many of these fruits are grown throughout the U.S., and in Canada and Mexico, so this book is a valuable information resource for readers across North America.

Author Debbie Wilsdorf got her inspiration for writing the book from her experience as owner of a U-pick operation in Missouri, where she markets strawberries, blackberries, and red raspberries.
