Always Start Your Morning Off Right

I know you’ve heard it over and over, but you must begin the day with a healthy breakfast. For a low carb diet, some good choices are oatmeal or poached eggs along with a serving of blackberries, strawberries, blueberries or cantaloupe. It is suggested to get your breakfast in your system before adding coffee or caffeine as it will help keep your blood sugar balanced.

Keep Low Carb Snacks Nearby

It’s a good idea to keep certain foods on hand at all times that are great for snacking when you need a quick pick me up or just to hold you over until your next meal. Whole almonds, cheese and chopped veggies like celery and broccoli are yummy and convenient to have on hand at all times for a low carb diet.

Just Say “No” to White Food

A good rule of thumb to follow on a low carb diet is to avoid foods that are white, such as sugar, flour, white bread, white rice, potatoes, milk, and cottage cheese. This is because white foods contain refined sugar and/or starches which break down in your body too quickly, not allowing it to burn fat from the fat stores.

Beverage Patrol: What to Drink on a Low Carb Diet

Water is essential for your body whether you’re dieting or not. The recommended amount is a minimum of 64 ounces. If you drink ice water, you body burns an additional 100 calories because it has to warm the water up before digesting it. Add some lemon to your water for flavor as well as for additional fat burning elements naturally found in lemons.

Another naturally fat burning drink is green tea. Obviously make sure it’s not sweetened and check for any other ingredients that might contain carbs. Some experts suggest drinking a cup of green tea half an hour before eating because it suppresses the appetite, making it less likely to overeat.
