Body Detox and Cleansing to Lose Weight

Detoxification and cleansing are two words you’ve probably heard a lot of lately. Everywhere you look there are ads for this detox diet or that colon cleansing diet to help you lose weight. So, just what does it mean to go on a “body detox” or to “cleanse to lose weight”?

Here’s a simple overview of detoxing and cleansing to lose weight.

Detox Diets and Cleansing for Weightloss

Basically the terms detox and cleanse can be used interchangeably and they are used to describe a method of ridding your body of damaging toxins.

The human body is designed to naturally rid itself of toxins through the liver, kidneys, lungs, intestines and skin. Doing a detox or cleansing diet for a short period of time helps to boost your body’s natural detoxification process, increasing your metabolism and helping you lose weight faster. (Please note: you should get your doctor’s professional opinion before beginning any diet.)

How to Choose a Detox Diet

There are various detox diets out there to consider, some for free and some for a price. Basically, you can find enough information on the Internet to create a safe and healthy detox diet that you’ll enjoy and give you the results you desire. Some popular detox diets are the Raw Food Detox and the Lemonade Cleanse.

How Long Does a Cleanse Last?

Most detox diets are to be used for a limited amount of time; anywhere from 1 week to 3 months, but usually not any longer than that. In addition, some detox diet experts suggest a 24-hour detox once a week or once a month to maintain proper health.

What Should I Eat and Drink During a Cleanse?

Most people tend to think of a detox diet as nasty tasting liquid diet, but a healthy and great tasting cleansing diet includes fruits such as cherries, strawberries, prunes, apricots and raw vegetables. Unsweetened fruit juices, lean chicken and fish, brown rice and turkey are also natural foods that won’t put any additional strain on your organs.

The number one beverage to drink while cleansing is of course water. And for an added metabolism booster, drink ice cold water with lemon. The cold water will burn an additional 100 calories because your body has to heat up the water in order to digest it. The lemon, as well as other citrus fruits, is another natural detoxifying food to add to your diet.

Know This Before Starting a Detox Diet or Cleanse to Lose Weight

You may be thinking about detoxifying pills or some magical powder you’ve seen advertised, but those are just gimmicks and most don’t do anything to help rid your system of damaging toxins. Going with natural, whole foods you probably already have in your fridge, along with some research is the best, least inexpensive and easiest way to detox and cleanse your body for weight loss.
